New Delhi:- The political crisis engulfing the Trinamool Congress (TMC) is deepening. After its defeat in the West Bengal assembly elections, the TMC, which is struggling with the rebellion of 58 MLAs, has now suffered a major setback in Parliament. On Monday, the party's Lok Sabha MP, Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, confirmed the speculations of a split within the Trinamool Congress. MP Kakoli Ghosh said that along with him, about 20 TMC MPs have decided to support the BJP-led NDA.
Kakoli Ghosh said that a letter signed by 20 TMC MPs has been sent to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, expressing their desire to form an alliance with the NDA. Senior party MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar claimed that around 20 TMC MPs have informed the Lok Sabha Speaker about their position to support the National Democratic Alliance.
The TMC currently has 28 Lok Sabha MPs and 12 Rajya Sabha MPs. Claiming that she remains the party's chief whip in the Lok Sabha, Dastidar said the decision was taken after consulting fellow MPs. The development comes amid a growing internal crisis within the Mamata Banerjee-led party, which has seen open opposition and resignations by senior leaders in recent days.
Ghosh Dastidar said the group has decided to align itself politically with the NDA, arguing that it reflects public opinion. "We have accepted the people's decision and believe that our future political path should be in line with the NDA," he said. The TMC leadership has not yet responded to these claims.
