Mohali, July 13: The Reinstated Contract Teachers' Union Punjab, led by State President Vikas Sahni, announced through a press release that the union has long been demanding the reinstatement of teachers through persistent struggle.
During a meeting with Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on June 15 at Phillaur, held during the Ludhiana by-election, the Chief Minister had assured that a committee would be constituted within 15 days to initiate the reinstatement process.
Sahni stated that officials from the Education Department were to be assigned this responsibility. However, despite more than a month having passed, the government has failed to act beyond mere assurances. He criticized the government for making promises for electoral gains and then neglecting them post-elections.
In response, the union has decided to gherao the Chief Minister’s residence on July 21, 2025, starting from the Education Department, Mohali. Sahni emphasized that although the union had previously refrained from protests and rallies, the government's failure to honor commitments has left them with no choice but to resume their struggle.
The announcement was also endorsed by Lakhwinder Kaur, Amandeep Kaur, Varun Khera, Gurpreet Singh, Jaswinder Kaur, and Rupinder Kaur, who marked their presence.
