Hoshiarpur - Today, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, despite his health not being good, in a special meeting with the cabinet through video conferencing from the hospital, the historic steps taken in the interest of the Punjabis suffering from the floods and the farmers of Punjab are highly commendable and I am sure that this will not only bring great relief to the flood-affected people and farmers in the Chabbewal constituency.
But with this, the people of the entire Punjab, who are currently united and fighting the troubles caused by the floods even in the era of neglect and negative attitude of the Central Government, expressed this view, Chabbewal MLA Dr. Ishank Kumar. He said that this relief given by the Chief Minister to our flood-affected people will prove to be a great help in getting their lives back on track very soon.
He said that in this important meeting today, S. Bhagwant Mann has announced to give compensation of Rs. 20 thousand per acre to the farmers of Punjab, which is the biggest compensation in history till date, although the loss that our farmers of Punjab have suffered due to these floods cannot be fully compensated with this, but giving this compensation to our farmers of Punjab even without the help of the Center will act as a big ointment on their wounds. Along with this, the Chief Minister has also taken a historic decision to allow the farmers to use the soil from the fields adjacent to the river for their own use or sell it under the “Whose village, whose sand” policy to make the farmland cultivable again. Apart from this, the Chief Minister has also announced that possible efforts will be made to assess the loss of livestock and property due to the floods and provide compensation. Apart from this, he also assured to start reconstruction and repair work on a war footing by surveying the damage to schools and government buildings.
On this occasion, MLA Dr. Ishank Kumar prayed at the feet of God for the good health of the Chief Minister and thanked him for the relief given to the people of Chabbewal and Punjab by announcing compensation so soon. Dr. Ishank said that Sardar Bhagwant Mann ji has already announced a compensation of 4 lakhs to the families of the victims of the deaths during the floods and the relief checks sent by the Chief Minister by Dr. Raj Kumar Chabbewal ji have been handed over to the families of the 7 deaths in district Hoshiarpur including Naugraiyan.
Dr. Ishank said that apart from this, the Chief Minister also announced a 6-month relief in repayment of loans taken by farmers from government and cooperative banks, societies and a 6-month interest waiver, which is a historic initiative.
Till date, no government has taken such quick steps to provide relief to the victims and these steps taken by Sardar Bhagwant Singh Mann prove that the government of the common man is truly sympathetic to the common people and the poor of Punjab and stands with them in every hour of happiness and sorrow. On this occasion, SDM Mahilpur and Secretary Adi were present with him.
