
MLA Dr. Charanjit Singh Holds Meeting with District Administration Regarding Development Works in Villages Under Kharar Sub-Division of Chamkaur Sahib
Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, August 28, 2025: Today, MLA Dr. Charanjit Singh held a meeting with the district administration at the District Administrative Complex in Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar to discuss development works and address daily challenges faced by residents in villages under the Kharar Sub-Division of the Chamkaur Sahib Assembly constituency, specifically in the Gharuan Kanungoi area. During the meeting, officers from various departments were instructed to complete constituency-related tasks within the stipulated time frame.
Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, August 28, 2025: Today, MLA Dr. Charanjit Singh held a meeting with the district administration at the District Administrative Complex in Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar to discuss development works and address daily challenges faced by residents in villages under the Kharar Sub-Division of the Chamkaur Sahib Assembly constituency, specifically in the Gharuan Kanungoi area. During the meeting, officers from various departments were instructed to complete constituency-related tasks within the stipulated time frame.
MLA Dr. Charanjit Singh directed Additional Deputy Commissioner (Urban Development) Anmol Singh Dhaliwal to expedite the implementation of the Gharuan Master Plan, which, once implemented, would resolve many issues automatically. He also urged the Public Works Department to promptly secure approval for a new proposal, still pending, for the reconstruction of a narrow and dilapidated bridge near Malikpur on the Satluj Yamuna Link (SYL) canal, and to commence the construction work at the earliest.
Regarding the status of Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) in the area, MLA Chamkaur Sahib reviewed the progress, and SDM Kharar, Divya P, informed that 2 acres of land required for the STP in Gharuan has been identified, and the Gharuan Nagar Panchayat is coordinating with the Local Government Department to legally acquire it. She further stated that 60% of the construction work for the STP in Khooni Majra has been completed, with the remaining work expected to be finished around July 2026.
When asked about a permanent solution to waterlogging on the Gharuan-Machhipur road, officials from the Public Works Department and Drainage Department informed that work would commence around September 15. The MLA also directed officials to expedite long-pending tasks, including the installation of streetlights and phirnis (village peripheral roads) in Peer Suhana and Tripuri, laying storm sewer pipelines up to the SYL canal, and extending storm sewer pipelines from villages near Kurali to the Siswan drain.
For the construction of the Gharuan Sub-Tehsil office, the MLA instructed officials to immediately request funds from the Revenue and Rehabilitation Department for the 5-kanal land provided by the Nagar Panchayat. He also emphasized arranging space for a police station. Similarly, for establishing a grain market/purchase center in Gharuan, he directed that the case for land located in Sakrulapur be sent to the Mandi Board.
Considering the historical significance of Gharuan linked to the Pandavas, the MLA instructed coordination with the Tourism and Cultural Affairs Department to develop a pond in the village for tourism purposes, including beautification, constructing a promenade, toilet block, parking area, and planting trees.
He also called for expediting the necessary steps to upgrade the Gharuan Primary Health Center into a 50-bed hospital to ensure prompt healthcare facilities for the region. Noting delays in completing the new building of ITI Tripuri, he instructed the Public Works Department to immediately request revised funds and complete the project. Similarly, for addressing waterlogging in Roda and Bajhedi villages, pipelines and treatment plant-related work were discussed. The BDPO Kharar informed that Gram Panchayat Bajhedi has received ?15.50 lakh from the DMF Fund for drainage solutions, and work such as pond cleaning is in progress and will be completed soon. Additionally, Gram Panchayat Roda has been sanctioned ?5 lakh by the Panchayat Samiti and ?13 lakh under the Rangla Punjab Scheme by the MLA for drainage solutions, with work to be completed upon receipt of funds.
The MLA directed the BDPO Kharar to coordinate with the Sub-Divisional Magistrate to expedite the widening of a bridge between Gram Panchayats Dhadak and Basia Head. He also instructed immediate action to relocate benches placed on private property in Gram Panchayat Rudki Pukhta to approximately 17 acres of vacant panchayat land. Additionally, he called for the prompt repair of roads in Rudki Pukhta and Bhagomajra and the completion of the e-KYC process for smart ration card holders.
The MLA instructed DSP (Headquarters) Harsimrat Singh to diligently work under the Punjab Government’s “War Against Drugs” campaign, launch awareness drives to protect students in educational institutions from drug abuse, and increase patrolling near Gharuan University. The DSP informed that significant progress has been made under the campaign, with 22 drug traffickers already arrested.
At the conclusion of the meeting, MLA Dr. Charanjit Singh instructed officers from various departments to prioritize and expedite pending tasks, emphasizing that assigned work must be completed within the stipulated time. He warned that appropriate departmental action would be taken against officers failing to complete tasks. Additional Deputy Commissioner Anmol Singh Dhaliwal also directed officers to personally visit sites and resolve priority tasks, including preparing new proposals if needed.
The meeting was attended by SDM Kharar Divya P, DDPO Paramvir Kaur, District Mandi Officer Surinderpal, Tehsildar Kharar Gurwinder Kaur, and other officials from various departments.
