In the advisory, he has asked the firecracker sellers to ensure that the firecracker stalls and storage institutions follow the fire safety instructions as well as prominently print the fire safety instructions on the stall banners.
What to do and what not to do
Jatin Lal said that buy firecrackers from licensed sellers and buy only legally approved quality firecrackers so that the risk of accidents can be reduced. Light firecrackers in open areas like parks or large grounds, away from buildings, vehicles and flammable materials. Keep a bucket of water nearby. Make sure to wear cotton clothes to reduce the risk of injuries as synthetic clothes can easily catch fire. While lighting firecrackers, always have an elder member of the house to supervise the children to ensure that they are following safety measures. Dispose of firecrackers properly.
After lighting crackers, stay away from half-burnt crackers. Light one cracker at a time. Avoid lighting multiple crackers simultaneously to prevent unexpected explosions. Stand at a safe distance from crackers after lighting them to avoid injury. If there is a fire incident while lighting crackers, immediately inform the fire department toll free number 101 or emergency centre Una's 1077.
Jatin Lal said that never light crackers inside the house, near windows or in other confined spaces. Do not wear loose or over-circumscribed clothes. Avoid wearing loose clothes that can easily catch fire. Do not light crackers near flammable materials. Keep crackers away from things like dry leaves, gas cylinders or vehicles. Do not light unburnt crackers again. If a cracker fails to burn, do not try to light it again. Wait for a few minutes and then dispose of it safely.
Do not block emergency exits. Ensure that crackers are not burst in areas that may block exit or escape routes in case of a fire. Do not leave candles or diyas unattended. Never leave oil lamps, candles or diyas unattended, especially near curtains or flammable materials. Do not ignore injuries. In case of any injuries or burns, seek medical help immediately. Also do not try home remedies without proper guidance.
