SAS Nagar, September 5 - Socialist Party of India National General Secretary Harinder Singh Manahiya, Secretary Balraj Singh Nangal and Spokesperson Bhagwant Singh Bedi have demanded that the states using dam water should also compensate for the damage caused by floods.
In a statement issued here, they said that the water given to Rajasthan, Haryana and Delhi by the Bhakra Beas Management Board constitutes 75 percent of the total canal water and Punjab uses only 25 percent of the water. When Punjab talks about giving less water, Haryana always demands more water from Punjab, due to which this dispute continues.
He said that the question is that if these three states (i.e. Rajasthan, Haryana and Delhi) have to take 75 percent of the water during the dry season, then 75 percent of the damage caused by these floods should also be recovered from these three states. These three states benefit from the water released by the Bhakra Beas Management Board for 10 months of the year, but only Punjab bears the brunt of floods during the rainy season.
He said that Punjab is not in a position to bear the burden of 50-60 thousand crores due to floods every year. The help that will come from the central government will be absolutely insignificant compared to this loss. Therefore, today it is necessary that 75 percent of the entire compensation be recovered from these three states.
He said that it is the responsibility of the central government that in the same way that it sends water to these states through the Bhakra Beas Management Board, 75 percent of the damage caused by the floods in Punjab should be recovered from these states and given to Punjab.
He said that the Socialist Party is also preparing to fight a legal battle on this issue and if the central government does not take necessary action in this regard, the party will take this issue to court.
