KIEV - Russia launched a major drone and missile attack on the Ukrainian capital Kiev early today, killing at least 12 people and wounding 48, local officials said. The attack was the first major Russian drone and missile attack on Kiev since US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin met earlier this month to discuss ending the three-year war in Ukraine.
However, diplomatic efforts to end the war intensified immediately after that meeting, but little information has emerged about the next steps. According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia launched 598 drones and decoys and 31 missiles at various locations in the country.
The air force claimed that Ukrainian forces had shot down 563 Russian drones and 26 missiles. The head of the Kiev city administration, Timur Tkachenko, citing initial information, said that three children, aged 2, 14 and 17, were also killed in the attacks. The death toll is expected to rise.
