Orders issued to ban pregabalin drug of more than 75 mg dosage

Patiala, January 11- Additional Deputy Commissioner (J)-cum-Additional District Magistrate Isha Singhal, Patiala, exercising powers conferred under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Security Code-2023, has banned the sale and storage of pregabalin drug, tablets and capsules of more than 75 mg dosage.

The orders of the Additional District Magistrate state that no wholesale and retail dealer of medicines, chemists, medical stores, pharmacies inside hospitals or any person shall sell pregabalin drug of more than 75 mg dosage to anyone without a genuine prescription of a doctor.
This ban has been imposed in view of the information given by various social organizations of the district. A committee has also been formed under the leadership of the civil surgeon, which has also prepared a report on the side effects of taking pregabalin, stating that Pregabalin drug in quantities more than 75 mg is misused and used as an intoxicant.
Similarly, a meeting was also held with representatives of the Indian Medical Association, Patiala and the Chemist Association, who justified the ban on it. Additional District Magistrate Isha Singhal further said in the orders that the committee has stated that this drug is prescribed to patients by very few doctors and banning Pregabalin drug in quantities more than 75 mg will be beneficial for the well-being of the society.
