
Madrasi Masala Dosa Raid – 2 kg of Plastic, 10,000 Fine!
Karnal, September 19: As part of the Haryana City Cleanliness Campaign 2025 and Seva Pakhwada, the Municipal Corporation has pledged to make the city free of single-use plastic (SUP). Keeping this in mind, the corporation's sanitation teams are conducting daily raids in various areas. A total of 14 challans were issued and a fine of ?20,500 was imposed for single-use plastic found at shops, eateries, and liquor shops on Karna Canal Road and Meerut Road, according to Municipal Corporation Commissioner Dr. Vaishali Sharma.

She stated that during the raid on Karna Canal Road, a 'Madrasi Masala Dosa' was also inspected. The team found approximately 2 kg of single-use plastic, resulting in a ?10,000 fine. The Municipal Commissioner stated that the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) team has been conducting information, education, and communication activities for a long time.
Under this initiative, awareness is being continuously raised about the human health and environmental damage caused by single-use plastic. Despite this, some individuals, lured by low profits, are refusing to stop using single-use plastic.
He clarified that wholesalers, shopkeepers, dhabas, hotels, restaurants, and street vendors in Karnal city are not permitted to use single-use plastic. Municipal teams are conducting regular raids to ensure that SUPs are found in their possession. They will be confiscated and issued a challan as per the rules.
*V.M.M.U. Jain Public School declared a 'Zero Waste' school:
The Municipal Commissioner informed that under the Haryana City Cleanliness Campaign and Service Fortnight, the management of V.M.M.U. Jain Public School, located on Phusgarh Road, has declared the school 'Zero Waste'. In this regard, on Thursday, the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) team and the City Team Leader inspected the school premises and checked the five types of dustbins, waste segregation, and compost pits.
They also checked whether single-use plastic was being used in the school. School Director Veena Gupta, Manager Sheetal, Principal Tanuja Sachdeva, Vice Principal Sagar, Trigger Master Gurdev Singh, CTL Ajay Kumar, and Ankit were present on the occasion.
*Cleanliness Campaigns Being Conducted in the City:
The Municipal Commissioner informed that as part of the Haryana City Cleanliness Campaign 2025 and the Seva Pakhwada, cleanliness drives are being conducted daily in various areas of the municipal area. On Thursday, cleanliness drives were carried out in Mann Colony, Ekta Colony, and the Shiv Mandir complex in Shanti Nagar Gali No. 1 in Ward No. 18. Ward Councilor Harjeet Singh (Laddi Sandhu) also participated in the campaign by donating his labor.
In addition, a cleanliness drive was also carried out in the Bal Bhavan complex in the Nyaypuri area. During this time, the office staff and students present in the library cleaned alongside the sanitation team. He explained that Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) teams are visiting wards daily to educate residents about separating wet and dry waste and avoiding single-use plastic. As part of the campaign, special emphasis is being placed on changing citizens' behavior.
