Nawanshahr- Today, representatives of migrant workers' organizations affiliated with Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district submitted a memorandum to the district administration in the name of the Chief Minister of Punjab, the President of India and the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, demanding strict punishment to the migrant who murdered a five-year-old boy Harvir Singh in Hoshiarpur recently, protection of the lives and property of migrants, legal action against village panchayats that pass resolutions against migrant workers, and strict legal action against those who spread hatred between Punjabis and migrants and post posts on social media that intimidate migrant workers.
The representatives have also submitted a memorandum to the Additional Deputy Commissioner in the name of the district administration, through which, in addition to the above demands, the district administration has also demanded that a joint meeting of representatives of religious, social, farmer-labour and migrant labour organisations of the district be held so that false rumours can be stopped and cooperation can be provided to maintain the bond between migrant labourers and Punjabis. Later, while talking to the media, District President of the Migrant Labour Union, Parveen Kumar Nirala, said that no matter what community, religion or region the criminal belongs to, he must be punished according to the law.
He said that since the murder of this child, a campaign is being run by some people on social media to expel migrants from Punjab and close their businesses. The people running this campaign are working to spread hatred between migrants and Punjabis. Punjabis and migrants have been in business and social interaction in Punjab for many decades. Which should be more profound. Migrants have also contributed a large part of their labor force to the progress of Punjab and will continue to do so.
The entire community cannot be punished for the crime committed by a single criminal. This demand letter was given by the Migrant Workers Union, Street Workers Union, Construction Masons Workers Union and Jugadu Street Workers Union belonging to Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district.
