Ludhiana - People's struggle is raging against the CBG/Bio CNG gas plant being set up by a company called GIAI New Energy Pvt Ltd in village Bhundri of district Ludhiana. Under the leadership of the anti-polluted gas factory protest committee, a firm dharna has been held in front of the factory since March 28. Where hundreds of people participate daily. With this factory, not only the people of Bhundari village are facing great danger, but the people of other villages and towns of the area will also have to bear heavy losses.
Therefore, the participation of the people of Bhundari village and other villages is also increasing in the struggle. Due to the conflict, the construction work has come to a standstill as the contractors and laborers involved in the construction have left the work. But the approval of the plant was not revoked by the government, maintaining its anti-people attitude. On April 14, a huge rally was held in front of the factory in which thousands of people from Bhundi and surrounding areas participated.
Various public organizations of laborers, farmers, youth participated in the rally. The rally was attended by Sukhdev Singh Bhundari, president of Rural Labor Union (Mashal), Lakhwinder, president of Karkhana Majdoor Union Punjab, Suraj, leader of Youth Bharat Sabha, Bibi Amarjit Kaur Majri from Bhakiu (Ekat-Ugrahan), leader of Rational Society Surjit Singh Dodhar, Distt. President Charanjit Singh Noorpura, Leader of Jamhuri Adhikar Sabha Chandigarh, Advocate Amandeep Kaur, District Secretary Sudagar Singh Ghudani, Leader Balwant Singh Ghudani, Leader of Bhakiu (United-Dakonda)-Dhaner Jagtar Singh Dehdka and Punjab President Manjit Singh Dhaner, Jamhuri Kisan Sabha. The speakers said that if the Punjab government does not close this gas factory, the struggle will be intensified in the coming days. He said that the Bhagwant Mann government of the Aam Aadmi Party is also following the same path as the previous governments and is adopting a pro-capitalist, ambivalent attitude. He said that with the construction of the gas factory, there will be various kinds of terrible dangers for the people. The construction of the factory has not been stopped considering the loss, dangers, fears and opposition of the people. They are not against setting up factories and creating employment, but they will not allow capitalists and their broker governments to play with people's lives in the name of creating employment.
The struggle committee says that the stock of gas in terms of tons will always be there in the factory. If the gas collected on such a large scale ever leaks, due to suffocation and fire, human beings and other animals can be killed on a large scale and severe diseases can break out. Even in the event of an explosion in the factory, there will be a huge loss of life and property of the people nearby. What is seriously worrying is that this factory is not even 100 meters away from the village population. Also, this gas factory is being built right in front of the school. Due to the pollution that will spread in the air, water and land due to the construction of the factory, people will suffer from respiratory, heart, eye and other physical diseases. The Sidhwan Bet area with the factory has also been declared a dark zone. No factory using water on a large scale can be set up here.
According to an estimate, the upcoming factory will use more water than 100 acres of crops. In such a situation, the villages and towns of the area will have to suffer the terrible consequences of this factory. Far from the people of the area, the consent of the people of Bhundari village was not taken for setting up the factory. Even the 'No Objection' Certificate (NOC) was not obtained from the village panchayat. The officers of the University of Agriculture, Ludhiana say that they too had no knowledge of this factory.
The committee says that in this era of pro-capitalist amendments in labor and company laws, it is even more dangerous to set up a gas factory in the area when industrial accidents are continuously increasing in the country. During the rally, an exhibition of revolutionary and progressive books was also organized by Janchatna. The Sangharsh Committee appeals to all the justice-loving people of Punjab to come forward freely in favor of their struggle.
