Nawanshahr - Cabinet Minister Chetan Singh Jaudamajra inaugurated a public quarry at village Bela Tajowal by flagging off a trolley full of sand to ensure provision of sand to the residents of the state at reasonable rates. MLA Santosh Kataria Balachore, Deputy Commissioner Navjot Pal Singh Randhawa, BC Wing Punjab President Shivkaran Singh Chechi, District Planning Committee President Satnam Singh Jalalpur were also present with him on this occasion.

Cabinet Minister Chetan Singh Jaudamajra said that 12 more new public sand quarries are being opened in different districts by the Punjab government led by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. These public pits are being opened in five districts of Ferozepur, SBS Nagar, Amritsar, Moga and Jalandhar. He said that under this link, a new public quarry is being opened near the Government Middle School at Bela Tajowal village of Balachore today. He said that sand can be taken from these quarries by manual digging at the rate of 5.50 rupees per cubic foot by the general public and the transportation of sand will be arranged at their own level.
   He said that the campaign to open public sand quarries has been well received by the common people and at present a total of 60 public quarries are running in different districts. So far 15.90 lakh metric tonnes of sand has been provided to the common people at Rs 5.50 per cubic feet, which shows the great success of this initiative. He said that the objective of this prestigious initiative of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann is to provide sand to the people at affordable rates. With the opening of new public sand quarries identified by the Department of Mines and Geology, the total number of these quarries will increase to 72, bringing more benefits to the common people. He said that with the help of these public sand quarries, common people can dig sand and sell it on a large scale, which will increase the supply of sand in the market and also reduce the market rates of sand.
