Kharar (SAS Nagar), June 4: As part of the ongoing state-wide campaign ‘War against drugs’ to intensify the crackdown against drug peddlers and make it exemplary, SAS Nagar police in collaboration with Rural Development and Panchayat Department on Wednesday carried out a demolition drive of illegal construction of drug peddler on Panchayat land in village Chatauli Kalan under jurisdiction of Police Station Sadar Kurali.
The action was taken on Wednesday under the leadership of DSP Mullanpur Mohit Agarwal and SHO Gaurav Bans Singh on the directions of SSP SAS Nagar Harmandeep Singh Hans.
DSP Agarwal said that the demolished structure was illegally constructed on the village’s phirni (panchayat land) by village resident drug peddler Dilpreet Singh, who is currently facing a case under NDPS and is in custody. The accused is involved in six criminal cases, four of which are registered under the NDPS Act in Ropar and Mohali districts.
In one of the most serious charges, Dilpreet Singh was booked under the NDPS Act on May 29, 2022 at Sadar Kurali police station, in which 445 grams of heroin was recovered. DSP Aggarwal said that this action highlights the zero tolerance policy of the Punjab government against drug trafficking.
He further said that this demolition drive is a strong message to those involved in the drug trade. This drive is part of a larger anti-drug initiative spearheaded by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and DGP Punjab Gaurav Yadav, aimed at eliminating drug abuse from the state.
SSP Harmandeep Singh Hans issued a stern warning to the drug traffickers to immediately stop their illegal activities or be ready to face similar consequences. He reiterated the firm commitment of the state and district police to eliminate drug trafficking and punish the culprits.
The action was widely appreciated by the local residents and Sarpanch Gurpreet Singh and they thanked the Punjab Government and the District Administration for their continuous efforts in the war against drugs.
DSP Aggarwal further informed that in the last few months, Mullapur Police Sub-Division has arrested 70 persons in 40 FIRs registered under NDPS, out of which many accused have been sent to de-addiction and rehabilitation centres for treatment.
Besides, the police have initiated action under Section 68-F of the NDPS Act, which resulted in two cases of attachment/freezing of vehicles and one case related to property being sent to the competent authority for sanction. All these movable and immovable properties have been identified as the proceeds of drug trafficking.
Naib Tehsildar Majri Rajveer Singh Marwah and Panchayat Officer Block Majri Mandeep Singh were also present on the occasion as Duty Magistrate.
