Prof. Sonu Goel from PGIMER Receives SRNT Global Research Network Award

PGIMER, Chandigarh- Prof. Sonu Goel, Professor at the Department of Community Medicine & School of Public Health, Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, has been honored with the SRNT Global Research Network Award.

PGIMER, Chandigarh- Prof. Sonu Goel, Professor at the Department of Community Medicine & School of Public Health, Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, has been honored with the SRNT Global Research Network Award. 
This prestigious award, conferred by the Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco (SRNT), recognizes his exceptional contributions to global tobacco control research. Dr Goel is one of the 5 distinguished scientists across globe to have received the award for his work in tobacco control.
Dr Goel leads several pioneering projects and initiatives that have shaped evidence-based tobacco control policies in the country. He was the former Chair of the Tobacco Control Section and leads the global MPOWER Research Group of The Union, as well as the National Academy of Medical Sciences Task Force on Tobacco Control.
 Additionally, he serves as the Director of the WHO Awardee Resource Centre for Tobacco Control and the Convenor of the Scientific Support Group established by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. Additionally, He also serves as an Adjunct Associate Clinical Professor at the School of Medicine, University of Limerick, Ireland, and an Honorary Professor in Human & Health Sciences at Swansea University, United Kingdom A prolific researcher, he has published over 270 manuscripts in reputed international and national journals, significantly contributing to the field of public health and tobacco control.
Prof. Goel’s contributions have been widely recognized, earning him visiting scholarships from Johns Hopkins University (USA), the International Union Against TB and Lung Disease, the University Grants Commission, and the Indian Council of Medical Research. His accolades include the 'Public Health Excellence of India' Award (2016) and PGIMER’s Best Researcher Award (twice). 
Notably, he is the youngest recipient of the Vasudeva Oration, Dr Harcharan Singh Oration conferred by the Indian Association of Preventive and Social Medicine, and Dr J.E. Park Oration by the Indian Public Health Association.
Having presented his research in over 45 countries, Prof. Goel continues to contribute to the global discourse on nicotine and tobacco research.
