Patiala, November 23 - The case against former Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and former Patiala Mayor Sanjeev Sharma Bittu has been proceeding at a slow pace since December 2022. The vigilance investigation is now likely to proceed more quickly as after a long wait of 11 months, Patiala Municipal Corporation has finally handed over the records of the last five years related to the former mayor to the vigilance after the vigilance's October 9 reminder. This has been confirmed by Municipal Corporation Commissioner Aditya Uppal. A copy of the letter issued by the Vigilance to the Municipal Corporation Commissioner is available to this journalist, in which the Vigilance, among other things, has sought verified information on the salary of the former mayor from 2018 to January 2023 and the property purchased in the name of family members. In this letter, Vigilance has written that the municipal corporation should be provided with information/records in the case of the ongoing investigation against former mayor Sanjeev Sharma Bittu, but this has not happened, once again it is requested to verify the relevant records. Copies to be forwarded to Vigilance through concerned Dealing Head. It may be mentioned here that there have been complaints against Sanjeev Sharma Bittu for some time now. Among the complainants are former senior deputy mayor Yoginder Singh Yogi and former councilor Kishan Chand Budhu who have joined the Aam Aadmi Party. Among other things the vigilance has sought from the municipal corporation are arrears paid to the former mayor, allowances, bills claimed, attested copy of certificate/ID card issued after being appointed as mayor, any foreign travel during the tenure. A certified copy of any instructions or notification issued by the Punjab Government to the Mayor regarding income tax exemption. When Sanjeev Sharma Bittu wanted to speak about the records handed over to Vigilance by the Municipal Corporation Commissioner, he could not be contacted. One of their numbers was "switched off" while the other number kept coming "busy".
