
Krishi Vigyan Kendra made school students aware about not burning straw
Patiala, November 6: An awareness seminar was conducted at Government Senior Secondary School, Sauja District, Patiala under the campaign of Krishi Vigyan Kendra of Punjab Agricultural University to prevent paddy stubble burning.

On this occasion, essay writing, speech and painting competitions were held for the students regarding not burning paddy straw. Speaker of the seminar, Dr. Gurupdesh Kaur, Professor (Plant Science) and Incharge, KVK, Patiala, gave information about the damage caused by stubble burning and motivated the students to play a responsible role in this awareness campaign.
Dr. Rajni Goyal, Professor (Food Science) and Dr. Rachna Singla, Professor (Horticulture), KVK Patiala elaborated on the various techniques adopted for handling paddy stubble. He motivated the students to bring changes in agricultural practices to save the environment as per the need of the hour.
Dr. Rajni Goyal shared information about the damage caused by junk food. Dr. Rachna Singla gave information about the use of paddy straw in mushroom cultivation. This seminar was organized under the leadership of Principal Mrs. Sukhum Chahal and English Lecturer Mr. Bhagwant Singh. The winners of these competitions were also given medals to encourage the students. On this occasion, a vulture was also presented by the students giving a message not to burn straw.
