Supply decreasing from Nashik, rates of other vegetables also increased
Patiala, October 30: Onion has once succeeded in "bringing more tears to people's eyes". Onion, which was fetching Rs 25-30 per kg two weeks ago, has now gone above Rs 70. Many vegetable sellers in the neighborhood are selling onions for up to 100 rupees per kg. It has been learned that wholesale price of onion is 50-60 rupees per kg. Big traders of onions in the vegetable market have attributed the rise in prices to non-arrival of the new crop in the markets. Only old goods are being sold in markets. It is being told that due to non-arrival of new goods, onion is being sold at Rs 52 to 55 per kg even in Nashik. Market traders say that there is no possibility of reduction in onion prices till Diwali. After Diwali, the prices of onions may come down only after the arrival of the new crop. Along with onion, the rate of tomato, ginger and peas has also troubled people, even though it is low compared to onion prices. Last week, tomato which fetched Rs 30 per kg is selling at Rs 40-45 per kg, peas fetching Rs 130 to 140 per kg have gone up from Rs 160. Ginger with Rs 200 per kg has reached Rs 240 per kg.
