PU organises one-day workshop on Stress Management

Chandigarh, February 4, 2025- Panjab University (PU) organised a one-day workshop on “Stress Management: Strategies, Opportunities and Consequences” at PU-ISSER today. Organised by PU Institute of Social Science Education and Research (ISSER) in collaboration with Directorate of Sports, Panjab University, Chandigarh, the workshop focused on effective strategies for managing stress in academic and professional settings.

Chandigarh, February 4, 2025- Panjab University (PU) organised a one-day workshop on “Stress Management: Strategies, Opportunities and Consequences” at PU-ISSER today. Organised by PU Institute of Social Science Education and Research (ISSER) in collaboration with Directorate of Sports, Panjab University, Chandigarh, the workshop focused on effective strategies for managing stress in academic and professional settings.
Prof. Akshay Anand, Department of Neurology, PGI and Dr. K.K. Soni, Department of Psychiatry were the honoured invited speakers while PU Registrar Prof. Y.P. Verma presided over the workshop as the Chief Guest. The workshop was coordinated by Prof. Anju Suri, Coordinator, ISSER and Prof. Rakesh Malik, Director, Directorate of Sports, PU. The workshop witnessed active participation of around 100 students and research scholars from PU-ISSER and other departments.
The workshop was highly educative and informative, in which the methods and coping strategies to deal with stress effectively and become effective were taught and trained. Addressing the audience, Prof. Y.P. Verma emphasized the importance of dedicated strategies and supportive relationships in stress management. He encouraged individuals to seek guidance and adopt a proactive approach towards mental health.
Dr. K.K. Soni in his address emphasized the need to organize regular sessions of workshops, seminars, etc. to educate all about the harmful effects of stress on life. He said that stress causes physical, emotional and cognitive symptoms. For managing stress, he suggested the approach of change, avoidance, mastery and acceptance.
Professor Akshay Anand discussed in detail the regular assessment process through assessments and surveys to check the stress levels and create a stress-reducing environment for a better workplace and stress-free-healthy lifestyle.
The workshop participants were trained in some exercises to keep the body and mind balanced for a healthy and stress-reducing lifestyle. The participants also practiced yoga in the session to get relief from stress.
Earlier, Professor Rakesh Malik started the session by welcoming the guests and highlighting the importance of stress management in academic institutions. He emphasized on the impact of stress on students, faculty and staff and stressed the importance of adopting the right approach to manage it effectively. The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks by Shri Vishwa Bakshi, Organizing Secretary, ISSER and Guest Faculty on behalf of Professor Anju Suri.
