Before the march the protesters gathered in Sector 37 (near Batra Theatre) and then marched towards the BJP office. Barricading was done by the police near the office due to which the protestors staged a dharna on the road itself. Meanwhile, the protestors tried to break the barricade and move forward, to control it, the Chandigarh police used force and when the protestors did not comply, water cannons were thrown at them and tear gas shells were thrown. Meanwhile, the police also resorted to light lathicharge to disperse the demonstrators, during which several workers suffered minor injuries.
