In Punjab, these days a survey is being conducted by the Deputy Commissioners of all the districts in which the
question is being asked as to why the Kamboj caste should not be thrown out of the backward class category. Taking serious notice of this,
leaders of the Kamboj community are gathering in different cities to make people aware about the ill effects of this behavior of the
government. In order to make this campaign successful in Malerkotla city also, President of Malerkotla Welfare Association and leader of
Kamboj community, Councilor Chaudhary Muhammad Shakeel has started holding meetings with his community. When contacted, he told
that the Kamboj caste is the backbone of the backward class. A conspiracy has been hatched to make the BC category ineffective by
separating it, which is politically motivated. Today, when the demand for caste census is rising rapidly across the country, the government
has tried to play with the future of our community by taking advantage of some selfish people, which will be strongly opposed.
Muhammad Shakeel said that we have also decided to knock on the doors of the High Court and are also making people aware from door
to door that if the Kamboj community is excluded from the backward class category then our future generation will not be able to get
government jobs. Neither will our children be able to take admission in top quality engineers, doctors and other profession-oriented
courses. Due to which the Kamboja community will lag behind in educational, economic, social and other fields also. For which the
leaders of our present era will also be equally responsible who are not taking this issue seriously today. Muhammad Shakeel further said
that we are soon going to start a signature campaign on this subject with the support of the local people so that we can tell the government
how much opposition there is among the people to this decision of the government. He demanded the Punjab government to stop this
survey immediately. Muhammad Shakeel said that the Kamboj community is in majority in Malerkotla city. The people here earn their
living by working as laborers or do agricultural work. Most of the people are landless or own less than 2 acres. The women and children of
this community also work in the fields. The educational and social level of common people is very low. The participation of the Kamboj
community in government jobs is negligible. Despite all this, if the government decides to remove Kamboj Bardari from the backward
class category, then it will be considered a big injustice on the part of the Punjab government on its people. Chaudhary Muhammad
Shakeel appealed to the Kamboj community to come together to protect the rights of themselves and their children so that the government
can be forced to reconsider its decision.
