Chandigarh:- Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann today announced after holding a virtual meeting with the Deputy Commissioners that compensation amount will be distributed to the affected people within one and a half months for the damage caused by the floods and the first check will be ready in a month. He said that the work of special girdawari will be completed in 30 to 40 days.

The Chief Minister said that till the time the people do not get the 'kalla' kalla money for the compensation for the damage caused by the floods, they will neither sleep peacefully nor let the officials sleep. Mann said in a press conference here today that the compensation amount will reach the people by Diwali and no house will be allowed to go out.
The Chief Minister said that compensation of Rs. 20 thousand per acre will be given for the damage to the crops and help will also be provided to the laborers. He said that compensation of Rs 37,500 will be given for the damaged livestock and Rs 40,000 per house for the collapsed houses. He today directed the Deputy Commissioners to immediately conduct a special Girdawari after the water recedes.
The Chief Minister said that the Punjab government is purchasing new JCB machines to remove the sand accumulated in the fields of farmers and these machines will be given to remove the sand. The Chief Minister said that so far 55 deaths have occurred due to the floods, out of which compensation has been given to 42 affected families. He said that the threat of Ghaggar still persists and the government has kept one lakh bags of sand filled to deal with it. He will go to meet the Prime Minister after preparing a complete account of the damage caused by the floods.
1582 crore SDRF funds were received when the government came to power
The Chief Minister also clarified about the controversial relief funds of 12 thousand crores that after the AAP government came to power, Rs 1582 crore was received under the State Disaster Response Fund, out of which Rs 649 crore has been spent. Bhagwant Mann also informed that the paddy crop has now reached the markets soon and preparations are underway for its procurement.
