Una, 28 August- District Road Safety Committee meeting was held in DRDA auditorium on Thursday under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Una Jatin Lal. Various points related to road safety were discussed in the meeting and many important decisions were taken to prevent road accidents and ensure safe traffic.
Deputy Commissioner Jatin Lal said that road safety is a collective responsibility and all departments, institutions and citizens will have to give priority to it. He directed the concerned departments to work in coordination and ensure strict compliance of all instructions related to road safety.

Improve black spots-
The DC said that it is necessary to identify accident prone places (black spots) in the district and improve them. He directed that if road defects are found after investigating the causes of accidents, they should be repaired immediately and necessary signage should be installed.

Those who help the injured will be honored-
The district administration has taken a new initiative to encourage those who help the injured in road accidents. The Deputy Commissioner said that the district administration will immediately provide an incentive amount of Rs 25,000 through the District Red Cross Society to anyone who helps an injured person in a road accident in the district. He asked the SDM to send recommendations immediately in such cases. The objective of this initiative is to inspire people to come forward with a sense of humanity and help the injured persons.

Special emphasis on awareness and safety-
The Deputy Commissioner directed all the SDMs to hold regular meetings regarding road safety in their respective areas and prepare a comprehensive road safety plan. The current situation, main problems, improvements made so far and future action plan should be clearly mentioned in this plan. He also directed to conduct regular inspection of school buses and organize road safety camps in schools.

Install warning boards on connecting roads from National Highway-
The DC asked to conduct a comprehensive survey and submit a report for installing signage, speed breakers, high quality CCTV cameras and traffic lights at major places in the district. Also, warning boards should be installed on connecting roads from National Highway. He also stressed on deployment of traffic force and installation of CCTVs at over speeding places.
SP Una Amit Yadav, SDM Amb Sachin Sharma, SDM Bangana Sonu Goyal, SDM Gagret Somil Gautam, Joint Commissioner Municipal Council Una Manoj Kumar, District Welfare Officer Awas Pandit, Deputy Director Agriculture Kulbhushan Dhiman, RTO Una Ashok Kumar, XEN PWD Kuldeep Singh Thakur and officers from various departments were present in the meeting.
