Hoshiarpur- The district administration of Hoshiarpur has made strong and effective arrangements to deal with emergencies like floods. Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain today made an extensive visit to the flood-affected areas of Tanda, Dasuha and Mukerian and took stock of the situation.

She said in clear words that the district administration is alert 24 hours a day and necessary resources and facilities are being provided in each affected area. First of all, in the presence of MLA Tanda, she reviewed Rada Mand, Miani Mand, village Abdullahpur and the Dhussi Dam built on the banks of Beas. After this, she also inspected the villages of Motla and Mehtabpur in Mukerian.
SSP Sandeep Kumar Malik, ADC (Rural Development) Nikas Kumar and officials of Drainage, Health, Police and other departments were present on the occasion. The Deputy Commissioner inspected the Rada Mand, Miani Mand, village Abdullapur and Dhussi embankments built on the banks of the Beas River and directed the concerned departments to be prepared at all levels.
He said that constant coordination has been maintained with the Bhakra Beas Management Board and the Drainage Department at the state level, so that immediate action can be taken in case of any emergency. He said that the Chief Minister of Punjab Bhagwant Singh Mann himself has taken detailed information about the situation in the district over the phone and has given clear instructions that no negligence or deficiency in relief and rescue operations will be tolerated.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the district administration has already ensured adequate stock of medicines, tarpaulins, boats, food items and other essential items. Teams of Drainage, Health, Police and other departments under the leadership of SDMs are working day and night in the sub-divisions. He said that N. D. R. Coordination has also been established with the F and their teams will reach the spot immediately if required.
At present, the administration has 11 boats, out of which 5 are kept in reserve at Tanda and Dasuha, 4 at Mukerian and 2 at the district headquarters, so that they can be sent anywhere in case of emergency. The Deputy Commissioner said that due to heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh and the district, controlled quantity of water is being released from the Pong Dam.
The administration is constantly monitoring this and regular inspections are being carried out to strengthen the Dhussi embankments. He appealed to the district residents to maintain distance from rivers, canals, chows, dams etc. as the water level in them is high due to heavy rains.
