Kharar (S.A.S. Nagar), August 5: MLA Anmol Gagan Mann today inaugurated the first phase of the Rs 22.15 crore canal water supply project on New Sunny Enclave Jandpur Road. Addressing a public gathering on the occasion, MLA Mann said that the commitment to provide canal water supply from Kajoli has been fulfilled with the commencement of the work of laying pipelines today and this work will be completed by September 2026.
He said that the first phase will cover Jhungia, Mander Nagar, Harlalpur, Jandpur and Chandigarh Road areas of Kharar. After the completion of the first phase, the remaining area of Kharar city will be covered. This project has been designed for the entire Kharar city at a cost of Rs 150 crore, which will be completed in phases.
Under this project, water supply will be sourced from the existing 'Gmada Clear Pipeline, Singhpur' providing canal water to Mohali area from Kajoli.
This water will be supplied to an underground service reservoir with a capacity of 54 lakh litres through a pipeline near the community centre at Jandpur. To maintain proper supply to the remaining areas covered under the first phase, two overhead water tanks with a capacity of 18 lakh litres and 9 lakh litres will be constructed at the community centre at Jandpur and Mander Nagar respectively.
MLA Mann further said that a total of 8.1 km of DI pipes will be laid to complete the work in the first phase. He said that this was a major promise he made to his voters and he is very happy to fulfill his promise to the residents of Kharar.
He said that all the major demands including sewerage line and water supply have already been fulfilled and he will push for the resolution of other issues in the coming days.
Prominent persons present on the occasion included Municipal Council President Anju Chandra and Councilor, Superintending Engineer, Water Supply and Sewerage Board Gurdesh Pal Singh, SDO Deepak Kumar and other dignitaries.
