Mohali Administration bans movement of heavy vehicles on Airport Road (PR-7) from Sector-66/82 Junction to Airport Roundabout during select hours in the morning and evening.

Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, August 2, 2025: To ensure smooth movement, prevent accidents and ensure safety of passengers, District Administration Mohali (Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar) has banned movement of heavy vehicles on Airport Road (PR-7) from Sector-66/82 Junction to Airport Roundabout during select hours of morning heavy traffic.

Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, August 2, 2025: To ensure smooth movement, prevent accidents and ensure safety of passengers, District Administration Mohali (Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar) has banned movement of heavy vehicles on Airport Road (PR-7) from Sector-66/82 Junction to Airport Roundabout during select hours of morning heavy traffic.
This ban will be applicable on movement of heavy vehicles on this route from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM and from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
District Magistrate Komal Mittal informed that Airport Road (PR-7) often faces heavy traffic jams during peak hours, causing considerable inconvenience to commuters, frequent traffic jams and increasing the risk of road accidents.
Being a major link between Mohali, Chandigarh and the International Airport, this corridor faces heavy traffic on a daily basis, including office goers, school buses and public transport. He said that to ensure safe and hassle-free travel, this regulatory measure has been implemented.
This ban has been imposed under the powers vested in the District Magistrate by Section 115 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and Section 163 of the Indian National Security Code, 2023 (BNSS). This order will come into effect from August 4, 2025 and will remain in force until further orders.
"Heavy vehicles" will include trucks, lorries, multi-axle goods carriers and construction equipment transporters.
However, emergency vehicles (ambulances, fire tenders, police and disaster response vehicles), vehicles carrying perishable or essential goods (milk, drinking water, medical supplies), public duty vehicles of government and municipal corporations on essential duty are exempted.
The District Magistrate has directed the Senior Superintendent of Police, S.A.S. Nagar and Chief Engineer, GMADA to ensure strict implementation of this order through effective enforcement measures and appropriate traffic signs on the restricted route.
Any person violating this order will face penal action under the relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and B.N.S. 2023, and other applicable laws.
