Chandigarh, July 30 - Taking a significant and determined step towards making the state free from stray animals, the Haryana Government has decided to launch a stray animal free campaign in mission mode across the state. The first phase of this campaign will run from August 1 to August 31, 2025.
This decision was taken here today during a review meeting of the officers of the Gau Seva Aayog, Urban Local Bodies Department and Animal Husbandry Department along with Additional Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Dr. Saket Kumar.
This campaign will be conducted as per the directions of Chief Minister Shri Naib Singh Saini, who has given guidelines for immediate and coordinated efforts to solve the problem of stray animals across the state.
Under the campaign, all stray animals roaming in urban and rural areas of the state will be identified, tagged, duly documented and transferred to registered cowsheds where they will be provided proper care and shelter. This initiative will ensure humane treatment of the animals as well as their effective monitoring and management.
Dr. Saket Kumar said that the Animal Husbandry Department will soon set up camps in four districts of the state, which will function as long-term shelter centres. These camps will be inaugurated by the Chief Minister.
He also said that as per the announcement of the Chief Minister, the state government has approved an incentive scheme for the rehabilitation of stray animals. Under this scheme, the employees of the cow shelters will take the helpless animals to the shelter places and after verification by the department, they will be provided financial assistance through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). The assistance amount is fixed at Rs 300 for each calf, Rs 600 for each cow and Rs 800 for each buffalo. For the effective implementation of this scheme, an amount of Rs 4 crore has been sanctioned by the government.
