Chandigarh- Taking a major step towards formulating a new industrial policy, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab has announced the formation of special committees with the aim of giving impetus to industrial development in the state. Industries Minister Sanjeev Arora said that a total of 22 committees will be formed and each committee will be headed by a prominent figure from the respective sector. These committees will advise the government on both financial and non-financial incentives required to support its industries.
Three committees will be formed for the textile industry while the remaining committees will focus on manufacturing of auto and auto parts, electric vehicles, sports goods, pharmaceuticals, agri-food processing and other such key sectors. “The committees are expected to submit their suggestions within 45 days, so that the government can release its industrial policy,” Arora said.
This move by the AAP government is a follow-up to the Punjab Industrial and Business Development Policy 2022, which aimed to improve the ease of doing business in the state. However, the policy failed to garner the required investment.
The government had launched the Punjab Udyog Kranti initiative earlier this year, which promises fast-track business approvals within 45 days, a streamlined single-window system for online applications, and strong support for MSMEs and startups. The initiative identifies 14 manufacturing and seven service sectors as key focus areas.
