Tempo Traveller falls into gorge in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda; 5 including a woman killed, 17 injured

Jammu, July 15 - Five people, including a woman, died and 17 others were injured when a tempo traveller lost control and fell into a deep gorge in the hilly district of Doda in Jammu and Kashmir this morning. The accident took place near Ponda on the Doda-Bharath road, about 30 km from Doda.

According to information, there were more passengers in the tempo traveller than its capacity and the vehicle lost control and fell into the gorge at around 9 am on a bend. The victims brought to the Government Medical College Hospital in Doda have been identified as Mohammad Ashraf (35), Mangata Wani (51), Ata Mohammada (33), Talib Hussain (35) and Rafika Begum (60).
Officials said 17 people have been admitted to the hospital, some of whom are in critical condition. They include five-year-old Uzma Jan, who has been referred to Jammu for specialized treatment in view of her critical condition. Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Democratic Progressive Azad Party President Ghulam Nabi Azad have expressed grief over the loss of lives in the accident.
