Amritsar, July 4 - In a major intelligence operation, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police has busted an international narco and arms smuggling module and an inter-state narco-hawala syndicate. Under this, the police arrested 9 accused in two cases and recovered a total of 1.15 kg heroin, 5 pistols (including 3 Glock 9 mm and 2 Chinese pistol cartridges) and drug money worth Rs 9.7 lakh. This was disclosed by DGP Gaurav Yadav through his X X social media account.
He said that in the first case, three accused were arrested with 5 modern pistols (including Glock and Chinese pistols) and 1 kg heroin. Two of them had recently returned from Malaysia and were working to transport weapons across Punjab on the instructions of handlers in Pakistan and Malaysia.
In another case, the police have arrested six accused who are part of a narco-hawala network linked to Delhi, Karnataka and Dubai. Drug money worth Rs 9.7 lakh and 150 grams of heroin have been recovered from them. They were sending money through hawala channels.
He said that in both the cases, a total of 1.15 kg heroin, 5 pistols (3 Glock 9 mm and 2 Chinese pistols with cartridges) and drug money worth Rs 9.7 lakh have been recovered.
Giving further information in this regard, Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that cases have been registered at police stations Sadar and Islamabad, Amritsar. He said that further investigation is underway in both the cases and to find out other links of the accused.
