
SDM held a meeting with officials to deal with the possible flood situation.
Hoshiarpur- On the instructions of Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain, SDM Hoshiarpur Gursimranjit Kaur held a review meeting with officials of various departments in her office today to deal with the possible flood situation. During the meeting, SDM directed the officials of Municipal Corporation Hoshiarpur, Municipal Council Haryana and Sham Churasi to ensure complete cleaning of all drains and sewers before the onset of rain, so that water does not accumulate.
Hoshiarpur- On the instructions of Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain, SDM Hoshiarpur Gursimranjit Kaur held a review meeting with officials of various departments in her office today to deal with the possible flood situation. During the meeting, SDM directed the officials of Municipal Corporation Hoshiarpur, Municipal Council Haryana and Sham Churasi to ensure complete cleaning of all drains and sewers before the onset of rain, so that water does not accumulate.
Along with this, he also instructed to make advance arrangements for pumps, so that water can be drained out immediately if required. He directed the Sainik Welfare Department and BDPO to identify swimmers and divers and prepare their list, so that their assistance can be taken during relief operations in emergency situations.
The SDM directed the District Education Officer to identify schools around potential flood-affected areas, which can be used as temporary relief camps if required. Also, instructions were given to ensure availability of basic facilities like drinking water, toilets, electricity etc. in these schools.
In the meeting, officials of Civil Defence, Home Guard, Food and Civil Supplies Department, Public Works Department, Drainage Department, Water Supply and Sanitation Department, Animal Husbandry Department, Red Cross Society and other related departments were made aware of their responsibilities and were asked to give priority to flood management preparations.
Civil Defence and Home Guard were instructed to assist in relief and rescue operations during disaster management, while BDPO was asked to play an active role in conducting relief operations in rural areas. Food and Civil Supplies Department was instructed to provide essential food items and other essential items to flood affected families as and when required.
Public Works and Drainage Department was instructed to maintain roads and drainage system and Water Supply and Sanitation Department was instructed to ensure clean drinking water and sanitation. Similarly, the Animal Husbandry Department was directed to ensure the safety of animals, health services and availability of fodder in flood affected areas, while the Red Cross Society was directed to actively cooperate in relief work and be ready to help the needy.
SDM Gursimranjit Kaur called upon all the departments to work in mutual coordination and be prepared to deal with any possible emergency situation in time and effectively. Tehsildar Larson Singla, District Education Officer Lalita Arora and officials of various departments were present in the meeting.
