60 Out of 104 Government Senior Secondary Schools in Punjab CM’s Native District Sangrur Are Without Principals (Lecturer Union Punjab)
Despite the Aam Aadmi Party government's efforts to bring an educational revolution in Punjab, it has not yet succeeded in appointing principals in senior secondary schools. The primary reason lies in the 2018 rules of the Education Department, which reduced the promotion quota from 100% to 50%, making 50% of principal positions to be filled through direct recruitment and 50% through promotion.
However, recent statements by Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains about amending these rules have sparked hope among experienced lecturers — many of whom have been recruited on merit over the past 25 years — that they may now finally get promoted.
Sanjeev Kumar (State President), Aman Sharma (Senior Vice President), Ranbir Singh Sohal (Press Secretary), and Jaspal Singh (District President, Sangrur) of the Government School Lecturer Union Punjab informed the Education Minister that 60 out of 104 senior secondary schools in district Sangrur are running without principals. They demanded that rules be amended and vacant principal positions be filled on a priority basis.
