From ‘War on Drugs’ to Development, Education and Sports – Exclusive Interview with Hoshiarpur MLA Brahm Shankar Jimpa

Hoshiarpur- In an exclusive and comprehensive interview with Hoshiarpur MLA Brahm Shankar Jimpa, several key issues were discussed – from Punjab’s ongoing ‘War on Drugs’ campaign to development works in the district, improvements in education, promotion of sports and government schemes focused on youth. The discussion acts as a bridge between ground reality, government efforts and public expectations.
MLA Brahm Shankar Jimpa asserted that the ‘War on Drugs’ campaign is no longer just a government initiative, but has become a mass movement. He said, "The government has gone from village to village to spread awareness about the dangers of drugs. Today every section of the society is coming forward in this campaign. It is our moral duty to save the youth from this evil. The administration, police and social organizations are fighting this problem together."
He said that the police administration has been given clear instructions to take strict action against the drug mafia, while rehabilitation centers are being made more effective and accessible.
Jimpa also said that the Punjab government is paying special attention to providing quality and technology-based education. He said, "Initiatives like 'School of Eminence' are changing the image of government schools. Now the children of Hoshiarpur do not need to go outside for a better future."
He also said that facilities like teacher training, smart classrooms and digital libraries are being added in government schools, which is changing the image and performance of these schools.
Talking about the development works, the MLA said that large-scale road construction, drainage system, street lighting, cleanliness drive and expansion of primary health services are being carried out to improve the infrastructure in urban and rural areas of Hoshiarpur.
He said that several new health centers have been inaugurated and the existing centers are being equipped with modern medical equipment.
“Our aim is to make Hoshiarpur a smart, clean and liveable city, where every citizen can easily access basic services,” he said. Speaking about youth development, Jimpa said that several sports complexes and grounds are being developed in the district.
“Sports are a powerful medium to keep the youth away from drugs. That is why the government is promoting sports activities at the village and school levels,” he said.
He also informed that financial assistance and coaching facilities are being provided to the players to participate in state and national level competitions.
Emphasizing the state government's commitment to skill development and entrepreneurship, the MLA said that job fairs are being organized in Hoshiarpur and youth are being trained for self-employment or jobs in the private sector.
