Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, May 20: Punjab Governor Shri Gulab Chand Kataria today attended the National Beekeeping Workshop organized by Punjab Kisan Vikas Chamber at Calcutta Bhawan Mohali on the occasion of World Bee Day as the Chief Guest.
On this occasion, he described the profession of beekeeping as beneficial for environmental cleanliness as well as human health. He said that the importance of honey starts from the time when man breathes in the world of life and till the end it remains connected to man in some form or the other. He said that according to Ayurveda also honey has many benefits.
He said that honey industry and trade is growing rapidly in India. He said that honeybees not only produce honey but also carry the seeds of many flowers from one place to another through pollination.
The Punjab Governor said that to further promote the honey industry, PAU Ludhiana and Punjab Kisan Vikas Chamber need to work together so that the income of farmers can be further increased through beekeeping. He said that though honey beekeeping industry is very old, we need to take it forward with new technologies.
On this occasion, he also specially felicitated various honey producers from across Punjab. On this occasion, the Governor also launched the formation of 'Honey and Apiculture Development Association of India'. Vice Chancellor of Punjab Agricultural University, Satbir Singh Gosal highlighted the efforts being made by Punjab Agricultural University in this regard.
On this occasion, Simranjit Singh Vice President Punjab Kisan Vikas Chamber, Balwinder Singh Sidhu Secretary Punjab Kisan Vikas Chamber and Chairman Kuldeep Singh Randhawa also addressed the gathering. Pradeep Thareja was honoured with Life Time Achievement Award on the occasion.
