Hoshiarpur- Son of Mata Surjit Kaur and father Late Sardar Joginder Singh Kanungo, Professor Dr. Amrik Singh made his parents' name shine abroad. And won the title of India's Best Official in the World Kabaddi Tournament Malaysia. His wife Mrs. Ravinder Kaur also has a huge contribution to his success. From the day Ravinder Kaur's steps entered this family, Professor Amrik Singh has always moved towards progress.

His two sons are Preneet Singh (Deputy Manager, Punjab National Bank) and Prithish Vir Singh (resident of Canada). Professor Dr. Amrik Singh said that I have achieved all this due to the inspiration of the late Kabaddi coach Sarwan Singh Bal (Maharaja Ranjit Singh Award winner) Coach Sahib for motivating me towards Kabaddi. During my school education, I was selected in Sports Wing, Kapurthala and secured second place in Punjab School Games and first place in Punjab State Championship.
During his higher education, he secured first place in the university and second place in the All India Inter University Kabaddi competitions. He participated in the Junior National Games three times as captain of the Punjab team. These games were held in Nashik (Maharashtra), Hyderabad and Andhra Pradesh. Along with Kabaddi, he participated in weightlifting competitions and won the titles of Mr. Punjab and Mr. Punjabi University Patiala in body building. After completing his higher education in MPED and NIS (Diploma), he was appointed as a Physical Education Teacher in the college from 1988.
During his tenure as an Assistant Professor in the college, he served as Captain in NCC and Youth Coordinator Youth Services Department Punjab and Haryana, Himachal, Chandigarh. He led the Sports Cup in New Delhi and also got the appointment of Sports Committee of Guru Nanak Dev University. He served as a referee for four consecutive years in the World Kabaddi Cup organized by the Punjab Government and served as Technical Official in the India Police Games four times. He is currently serving as Chief Technical Official in the European Kabaddi Tournament and the British Kabaddi Tournament for four consecutive years. He has been serving as Chief Technical Official in the New Zealand Malaysia, Peru (South America) Gias Co (UK), Italy, Birmingham (UK) World Kabaddi Kabaddi Cup which was held from 17 to 23 March 2025.
He served as Chief Coach of the England Girls and Boys teams which secured second place in the World Cup. State Award winner Roshan Lal Sharma, a national level player and international level official, said that Professor Dr. Amrik Singh is an expert in his subject along with sports and the university has appointed him as a member for academic courses for two years and has served as Registrar and Vice Principal in the college and has also obtained a doctor's degree (PhD).
Mr. Roshan Ji said that Dr. Amrik Singh was a very simple person. And while leading a very simple life, he also has a lot of knowledge about religious aspects. Sports players were very inspired by his personality. His elder brother Sardar Man Singh is a national level player and Colonel Jarnail Singh has served as Deputy Director Sainik Welfare Officer, Punjab and Ranjit Singh is serving as a Physical Education Teacher at Guru Nanak College, Kapurthala.
Professor Dr. Amrik Singh always takes the blessings of his mother before going on duty at the international level and always thanks God for achieving success.
