
World Thalassemia Day celebrated by Thalassemia Charitable Trust.
Chandigarh- The Department of Transfusion Medicine, PGIMER, Chandigarh and Thalassemia Charitable Trust, a leading trust supporting thalassemia patients of North India, organized a mega blood donation camp at PGI Chandigarh on the occasion of World Thalassemia Day on 8th May 2025. This was the 313th blood donation camp of the trust.

This was the 313th blood donation camp of the trust.
The camp was sponsored by M/s Unipro Techno Infrastructure Private Limited Chandigarh and State Bank of India, MI Branch, PGIMER, Chandigarh. This blood donation camp was also important because the availability of blood decreases during the summer months due to low number of blood donors.
The Department of Transfusion Medicine and Thalassemia Charitable Trust, PGIMER celebrate World Thalassemia Day every year to spread awareness about Thalassemia. The Thalassemia Charitable Trust made elaborate arrangements for blood donors and set up a desk dedicated to Thalassemia Awareness.
Professor (Dr.) Sanjay Jain, Director (Current Duty) and Dean Research, PGIMER Chandigarh inaugurated the blood donation camp by cutting a cake with Thalassemia patients. He was accompanied by Professor (Dr.) Ratti Ram Sharma - Head, Department of Transfusion Medicine. Professor (Dr.) Sadhana Lal, Head, Department of Gastroenterology, Advanced Pediatric Centre PGIMER Chandigarh also blessed the blood donors.
Professor (Dr.) Sanjay Jain took keen interest in the functioning of TCT and appreciated the efforts of TCT in organizing this mega blood donation camp and running two day care centers for Thalassemia patients at PGIMER and GMCH Chandigarh.
Registration for body, organ and eye donation was also available for tourists. Thalassemia awareness counseling and literature were also distributed to the public.
In this blood donation camp, 313 voluntary blood donors registered for blood donation, out of which 263 honorable blood donors donated blood. The blood donors were felicitated with certificates, badges, gifts and healthy refreshments. The credit for the success of this camp goes to the entire team of the Department of Transfusion Medicine and the staff of TCT PGI Chandigarh under the leadership of Professor (Dr.) R.R. Sharma, Head, Department of Transfusion Medicine and Shri Rajinder Kalra, Member Secretary-TCT.

Singh, Senior Vice President; Mr. Rajinder Kalra, Member Secretary, Mr. Balraj Gill, Vice President and Executive Committee Members Mrs. Rupam Korpal, S/Shri Kush Verma, Dr. Vinay Sood, and Amit Sood thanked Dr. Sangeeta Pachar-Associate Professor, Dr. Aishwarya, Dr. Smriti Chauhan and the team of nurses and technicians for their excellent services in organizing this camp. TCT is grateful to 10 students of National Institute of Nursing Education, PGIMER for their assistance in organizing the camp. Mr. Rajinder Kalra, Member Secretary of the Trust emphasized on the need for voluntary blood donation to save precious lives in need of blood support.
