Payment of the crop to the farmers is also being made in a timely manner, but the central government is not fulfilling its responsibilities properly. The responsibility of lifting the wheat purchased from the mandis lies with the Central Government, but the Central Government and FCI are being negligent in lifting the wheat from the mandis.
He said that till now 124.05 lakh metric tons of wheat have arrived in the mandis and 123.35 lakh metric tons of wheat have been purchased, out of which 79.36 lakh metric tons of wheat have been lifted and 43.99 lakh metric tons of wheat are lying in the mandis. He said that on May 5, 1.10 lakh metric tons of wheat arrived in the mandis of the state, while 1.19 lakh metric tons of wheat have been purchased. He said that Rs. 25821.71 crore has been paid to the farmers.
The Chairman said that the weather is getting bad in the state and due to less lifting, wheat is piled up in the mandis. Due to the poor performance of the Central Government, wheat is getting soaked in the markets, although the Punjab Government has made proper arrangements in the markets, but if the purchased wheat gets soaked due to bad weather, then the responsibility will be of the Central Government. The attitude of the Central Government is being seen as discrimination by the people of Punjab.
S. Burst said that the Central Government should make proper arrangements for lifting the wheat purchased from the markets. He said that the Central Government and FCI should understand their responsibility to deliver the right kind of grain to the people and should get the wheat lifted by deploying special trains as soon as possible and should deliver the grain to wherever it needs to be delivered.
He said that under the leadership of the Honorable Chief Minister of Punjab S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, proper arrangements have been made for the smooth running of the wheat procurement operations in the markets of the state. Complete arrangements for cleanliness, drinking water, bathrooms, shade, seating etc. have been made in the mandis so that farmers, arhtiyas, labourers do not have to face any kind of problem.
