Bollywood actor Jackie Shroff, brand ambassador of Thalassemia Awareness, also participated in this nationwide campaign launched with the aim of creating awareness among the general public to eliminate thalassemia by the year 2035.
Many other health experts, policy makers, NGOs, patients and citizens working for the elimination of thalassemia were also present on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Jackie Shroff said that eliminating thalassemia is not just a medical goal but also a moral responsibility.
He said that every year around 10,000 to 15,000 new cases of Thalassemia Major are reported in India. It is a silent crisis that continues to affect countless families. He said that timely identification and awareness can save many children from lifelong problems.
