Chandigarh, April 22: Ever since the harvest season began in Punjab, incidents of wheat fire have been coming to the fore. After this, compensation is being demanded from the government to compensate the farmers for the losses. On this occasion, Sukhpal Khaira said that the wheat crop has suffered heavy losses due to fire, rain and hailstorm in different parts of the state.
Khaira strongly condemned the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, which has failed to address the plight of farmers affected by the bad weather. He also mentioned that while in the opposition, AAP leaders often criticized the inadequate compensation for crop damage, but his government has completely failed to provide adequate relief to farmers during the last three years of rule.
Citeing the recent damage to standing wheat crops and harvested grain in the mandis due to hailstorms, storms and fire, Khaira demanded a compensation of Rs 50,000 per acre for the affected farmers, so that they can come out of the financial crisis. He stressed that the state government should assess the damage transparently and quickly and ensure that the compensation reaches every affected farmer without delay.
Khaira said that storms and hailstorms have destroyed crops in districts like Barnala, Mansa and Sangrur, while fire and sudden rains have ruined the harvested wheat in the mandis. The AAP government cannot turn a blind eye to this crisis. Farmers need justice and appropriate compensation, not empty talk,
Khaira said that the AAP government should stop making excuses and take responsibility. We demand Rs 50,000 per acre as immediate relief for farmers and a clear roadmap to prevent such losses in the future.
