SAS Nagar, August 2 – State Vice President of the General Category Political Wing Jasvir Singh Garhak has written a letter to the Election Commission of Punjab demanding that people living in private mega projects and urban areas outside councils should also be given their primary vote.
He said that people living outside the areas of municipal councils and corporations do not have the right to cast their primary vote, because these areas are neither considered rural nor urban. Neither panchayats are formed in these areas nor do they have any right to vote in the municipal council.
He said that it is illegal to take away the right of primary vote from people on such a large scale. Many voters do not even have the right to vote in Block Samiti and Zila Parishad, because these areas are considered urban and are kept away from Panchayat Samiti votes.
They have demanded from the Election Commission Punjab and the Punjab Government that the voters of these areas be given the right to vote in the upcoming Panchayat Samiti elections and as long as they are not included in the areas of Municipal Councils, Panchayats should be formed in these areas so that the people of these areas can get the right to vote. Surinder Singh Bassi, Surinder Pal Singh Khantra and Gurmanjit Singh were present on this occasion.
