Chandigarh: Bhakra Beas Management Board Chairman Manoj Tripathi today indirectly put the Punjab government in the dock over the flood situation. The Chairman argued that the role of dams is important in saving Punjab from major disaster during the flood situation. He said that Bhakra Dam has stored the water coming from the mountains.
The Chairman said that if Haryana had released more water earlier, the water level in the dam would have come down by four feet and space would have been created for the water coming from the mountains now. It is worth mentioning that some time before the flood situation, Haryana had demanded additional water from Punjab and Punjab had flatly refused. At that time, there was a lot of tension between Punjab and Haryana.
Haryana and Rajasthan had written a letter to the Punjab government yesterday and reduced the demand for water in their respective canals to zero. Meanwhile, today, the BBMB Chairman held a press conference and shared statistics about the water in the dams, while indirectly targeting Punjab for not releasing excess water to Haryana in the past.
