New Delhi/Hoshiarpur- MP Dr. Raj Kumar Chabbewal met Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi today and demanded that Balachaur-Hoshiarpur-Dasuha road be declared as National Highway and widened further which will facilitate smooth traffic movement in the region and also boost economic development. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari assured to take appropriate action on the project.
Meeting the Union Minister in his office, Lok Sabha Member Dr. Raj Kumar Chabbewal apprised him that Balachaur-Hoshiarpur-Dasuha road connects several districts of Punjab and neighbouring states which is currently facing heavy traffic pressure. He said that due to heavy increase in traffic on this road in the recent past, the existing road structure has become narrow due to which commuters are facing traffic related problems on a daily basis.
He told the Union Minister that widening of this road will not only benefit the people with safe traffic but will also boost trade, industry and tourism activities in the region. Demanding declaration of this road connecting Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir as a National Highway, MP Dr. Raj Kumar Chabbewal appealed to the Union Minister that declaration of this road as a National Highway will make inter-state traffic much better than before and the Centre will ensure its maintenance from time to time for development of infrastructure.
He said that declaring this main road connecting North Punjab with major industrial centres as a National Highway and widening it is the main demand of the hour, which should be accepted on priority basis. He appealed to the Union Minister that the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways should consider this demand with all seriousness and issue directions to the concerned authority to take appropriate steps like survey, administrative process and exploring possibilities in this regard.
He said that declaration of this road as a National Highway by the Ministry will give new impetus to the socio-economic development of the region. Dr. Raj Kumar Chabbewal said that the Punjab Government would ensure all possible cooperation for this public utility project so that the necessary procedures in this regard could be completed on time.
