Anganwadi workers given training on Child Marriage Prevention Act and Women Helpline.

Balachaur- Group of Anganwadi workers of Circle Mazari of Block Balachaur under Social Security and Women & Child Development Department, Punjab were given training on Child Marriage Prevention Act 2006 and Women Helpline 181 during the circle meeting today.

On this occasion, Child Development Project Officer, Saroya Puran Pankaj Sharma said that during this training, group of Anganwadi workers present have been given training on the Act, the main objective of which is to prevent social evil like child marriage. He said that as per Child Marriage Prevention Act 2006, minimum age of girl at the time of marriage has been fixed at 18 years and that of boy at 21 years.
Marriage below the prescribed age is not legally recognized and strict legal punishment and penalty is provided against those who violate the law. He said that under this Act, Child Development Project Officers and Principals of Government Senior Schools have been designated as Child Marriage Prohibition Officers.
He said that the main objective of this training is to make the general public aware of the law in the villages through Anganwadi workers so that this message can be conveyed to every household. He appealed to the general public to become aware and make collective efforts to stop this social evil. Supervisor Amandeep Kaur and all Anganwadi workers were present on this occasion.
