MLA Kulwant Singh raised a question in the Vidhan Sabha regarding the increase in the base rate of minimum wages

He said that if there is any such proposal, then by when will it be implemented, it should also be informed.
Labor Minister Tarunpreet Singh Saund, in response to his question, said that the proposal to increase the minimum wages is under consideration of the Labor Department. He said that the minimum wages are increased in two ways, one way is that the adjustment of the minimum wages is done twice a year, from 1 March and 1 September, according to the increase in the Consumer Price Index. Accordingly, the last increase was made on 01.09.2024 and the next increase will be made in the coming few days from 01.03.2025.
He said that the second way is to increase the base rate of the minimum wages. The proposal in this regard is also under consideration of the department. He assured that this increase will be done this year, which will make the base year 2025.
MLA Kulwant Singh on this occasion demanded that the base rate of the minimum wages be increased according to the surrounding states and UTs so that the people can get some relief from the rising inflation.
