Hoshiarpur - Block Harta Badla (Satish Sharma) Under the theme "Let's unite for a glaucoma free world" and as per the guidelines of Civil Surgeon Hoshiarpur Dr. Pawan Kumar and Senior Medical Officer Dr. Manpreet Singh Bains, World Glaucoma Week is being celebrated from 09 March to 15 March at CHC Harta Badla, under which free checkup of patients suffering from cataract is being done and common people are also being made aware about it.
On this occasion, Ophthalmologist Mr. Tarsem while sharing information about cataract said that glaucoma is one of the main causes of permanent blindness in India. In cataract or glaucoma, the flow of aqueous fluid found inside the eye is obstructed, which increases the pressure in the eye. Congenital cataract can also be hereditary. It is seen from before the birth of the child till the age of three years. It mostly occurs in both eyes and sometimes in one eye.
If someone's family members are suffering from glaucoma, someone has diabetes, high blood pressure or someone uses steroids for allergy, asthma, skin disease etc., then that person can be affected by glaucoma. Giving information about the symptoms of glaucoma, he said that unusual headache or pain in the eyes, frequent change of reading glasses, colored circles around the light, sudden loss of vision with pain and redness in the eyes and limited field of vision etc. are the symptoms of glaucoma.
He said that if any such symptoms are seen, they must get their eye pressure checked, because if glaucoma (black cataract) is detected in time, it can be treated and further damage can be avoided. Therefore, get your eyes checked regularly at the nearest hospital. He said that all people above the age of 40 should get their eyes checked once a year so that the disease can be identified in time and treatment can be started. He said that no medicine should be applied to the eyes without consulting a doctor. Awareness about glaucoma is the only solution to this disease.
