SAS Nagar, March 12: To promote the use of solar energy in villages with a population of more than 5000 in Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar district, four villages; Khizrabad (Majri Block) and Bahlolpur, Badmajra and Jagatpura (Mohali Block) have been selected, whose solar use of each household will be assessed by the District Level Committee after six months.
Giving details, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Rural Development) Sonam Chaudhary said that the District Level Committee will be headed by Deputy Commissioner Mrs Komal Mittal, which will include Superintendent Engineer PSPCL, DDPO, District Lead Bank Manager, Superintendent Engineer DISCOM, District Manager PEDA, MC Chairman Derabassi and Sarpanch Badmajra Colony.
She said that the selected villages will be made aware by the respective Panchayats to use solar energy and biogas plants for individual households, so that energy and resources can be saved while keeping the environment clean.
After a period of six months, an evaluation will be done by the committee to check the maximum coverage of solar rooftop coverage, solar pumps, street lights and biogas plants and the village having maximum use of solar rooftop and other systems and biogas plants will receive a grant of Rs 1 crore under central financial assistance as a model solar village.
He said that under PM Surya Ghar Yojana, individuals are eligible for a subsidy of Rs 78,000 for solar system up to 3 kW. For more information, one can visit PMSuryaghar website of Government of India.
The ADC has appealed to the residents of the selected villages to adopt solar system as much as possible to get the tag of solar model village.
