March 4 Hoshiarpur - The campaign launched by the current state government against drug abuse is a commendable initiative, said senior BJP leader Sohan Singh Thandal during a special meeting, but at the same time he took a dig at the current government and said that the government has started this initiative after three years.
Where was the government in the first three years when the current government announced after coming to power that it would eliminate drug abuse on a priority basis and now after three years, after the defeat in Delhi, this action has been started in Punjab, although the effect of drug abuse was there in Punjab earlier also. The then government had also made efforts.
He said that under this campaign launched by the current government, many people's houses are being demolished and the houses being shown by the media are very small and kutcha. If according to the government these houses belong to big drug smugglers, then it can be seen directly that these houses will be very big and expensive. None of these houses look big or expensive.
He said that under this campaign, the concerned officials should investigate before taking action so that any poor person who has become addicted to drugs due to any reason and whose family's condition is already pathetic, the police should arrest him and send him to jail and demolish his house.
He said that in one area of ??the state, the MLAs and some leaders of the current party are themselves running a campaign against drugs. He specifically mentioned during this meeting that during his tenure as Jail Minister, he had made a lot of efforts and talked to the then DGP and IG on the issue of drugs, but instead of resolving it or taking legal action, those police officials told him that they will stop drugs and in future if your government is formed, the police will start catching a large number of drug addicts and sending them to jail.
He said that under this campaign, it is the duty of the police to catch big drug smugglers and take action against them, so that drug abuse can be stopped. He said that stopping drug abuse is the job of the police, not of ministers or MLAs. He said that the police is well aware of which area is drug trade going on and who are its dealers.
But due to the influence of the police, no legal action is taken against them and after taking legal action against the drug addicts, the file is closed. While the police should find out during their investigation that where the drug started coming from and how it reached here, this way also drug abuse can be stopped.
