No place for drug traffickers in Punjab: Dr Balbir Singh

This was stated by Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Balbir Singh while addressing the media after holding a meeting with the managers of private de-addiction centres of the district at the local government de-addiction and rehabilitation centre. He said that in the campaign to make a drug-free society, the accountability of private de-addiction centres will be fixed and the managers of these centres will have to tell how many drug addicts they have freed from drug addiction.
He said that making Punjab drug-free is the top priority of the Punjab government, in which the cooperation of the common people is also very important. The Health Minister gave a stern warning to the drug traffickers and said that there is no place for them in Punjab. He said that the Punjab government is giving a strong message by taking exemplary action against drug traffickers. He said that the drug traffickers should immediately stop their illegal business, otherwise be ready to go behind the bars of the jail.
He said that the Punjab government is making various efforts to rid the victims of drug addiction and to include them in the mainstream of society. He said that in this campaign, after getting the drug addicts rid of their addiction, they will also be given training in business oriented courses by the government and after the training, they will be given loans under various schemes of the government and will be helped to start self-employment.
He especially appealed to the women of the state that if any member of a family is trapped in the quagmire of drug addiction, then he should be immediately brought to the government de-addiction center and the government promises that by saving the life of their family member, they will be given a chance to live a healthy life again.
The Health Minister, while talking to the patients admitted in the de-addiction center, urged them to get out of the quagmire of drug addiction forever.
On this occasion, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Rural Development) Sonam Chaudhary, Civil Surgeon Dr. Sangeeta Jain, Deputy Medical Commissioner Dr. Parvinderpal Kaur and other officers were present.
