
District Committee discusses compensation cases in unidentified vehicle cases

Chairing the Committee, Additional Deputy Commissioner (G), Viraj S Tidarke asked the SDMs to study the cases closely and present them in the next meeting for taking a concrete decision.

Chairing the Committee, Additional Deputy Commissioner (G), Viraj S Tidarke asked the SDMs to study the cases closely and present them in the next meeting for taking a concrete decision.
ADC Tidarke informed that to get compensation in hit and run cases, first the victim's family has to submit an application with the necessary documents to the Sub Divisional Magistrate-cum-Claim Investigation Officer. The concerned SDM will investigate the matter and recommend the case to the District Committee headed by the Deputy Commissioner-cum-Claim Settlement Commissioner. The Committee will further send the case to the nodal officer of the insurance company allotted to the district.
He informed that the necessary documents which are mandatory to be attached with Form 1 include copy of passbook of the claimant having complete bank details, copy of cashless treatment bill (if any) of the hospital where the victim was treated, copy of document for identity card and address proof of the victim, copy of document for identity card and address proof of the claimant, copy of police FIR, post-mortem report in case of death and death certificate or injury report, as applicable.
The ADC further informed that the effective compensation for accidents occurring on or after April 1, 2022 in hit and run cases is Rs 2 lakh in case of death and Rs 50,000 in case of grievous injury. The compensation payable to the victims of hit and run accident on or before March 31, 2022 will be as per the old Solatium Fund Scheme, 1989, which is Rs 25,000 in case of death and Rs 12,500 in case of grievous injury.
The meeting was attended by SDM Damandeep Kaur, SDM Gurminder Singh and SDM Amit Gupta, besides Assistant Commissioner (G) Dr Ankita Kansal, DSP (Traffic) Karnail Singh, representatives of the Transport Department and non-official member of the committee Harpreet Singh.
