Kharar/S.A.S. Nagar November 28, 2024: Under the guidance of Civil Surgeon Dr. Vandana Chitkara and under the leadership of Senior Medical Officer Gharuan Dr. Arvindpal Singh, children/adolescents aged between 1 and 19 years were given Albendazole tablets and syrup in schools and Anganwadi centers today on the occasion of ‘National De-worming Day’ to get rid of stomach worms.
Health and Family Welfare teams visited schools and Anganwadi centers and inspected the campaign. Small children are being given a dose of Albendazole by ASHA workers going door to door. Those children who will not take the pill will also be given a dose by running a campaign on December 5.
SMO Dr. Arvindpal Singh said that due to the reduction in daily food intake due to stomach worms in most children, physical weakness, anemia and irritability develop, due to which the child does not have complete physical and mental development.
He said that stomach worms develop due to small children eating dirt, not washing their hands before eating, walking barefoot, and not keeping the food clean. While this medicine will get rid of stomach worms in children, it is also beneficial for their physical development. It is important for every child to chew the pill, whether the child has stomach worms or not.
He said that green vegetables should be cleaned and eaten properly and that one should keep clean, keep nails trimmed and wash hands thoroughly with soap before and after eating and avoid biting nails with teeth. He asked the children to avoid eating outside things and give preference to eating home-made things.
On this occasion, Dr. Hardeep Kaur, RBSK Team Dr. Amanpreet Kaur, Dr. Jaspreet Kaur, Dr. Davinder Singh Randhawa, Dr. Harmandeep Singh, Pharmacist Nitesh Attri, Staff Nurse Ramandeep Kaur, LHV Jasvir Kaur, school teachers and ASHA workers were present.
