About 500 headmasters and principals of high and senior secondary schools of the district participated in this program.
During the seminar, the Deputy Commissioner and SSP appealed to the people of the district to play an active role in the drug eradication campaign and cooperate with the district administration. Addressing the seminar, Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal said that the role of schools is very important in saving the youth from drug addiction. He said that the character building of students starts from school itself. He shared information about the administrative efforts to spread awareness and take concrete steps against drug addiction under 'Mission Hoshiyaar'.
He also appealed to the teachers to teach moral values ??to the students along with their subjects. Komal Mittal said that the Health Department is running 2 de-addiction centres, one rehabilitation centre and 15 OAT centres in the district. He said that the district administration is working to rehabilitate as many youths trapped in drug addiction through these centres. SSP Surendra Lamba said that a direct contact campaign is being run against drug addiction on the guidelines of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and DGP Gaurav Yadav. He described school heads as an important link in this fight.
He appealed to the people to provide information about drug smugglers to the district police. For this, helpline numbers 95016-60318, control room numbers 01882-247506, 75290-30100 and Safe Punjab Drug Helpline number 97791-00200 have been issued. He also assured that strict action will be taken while keeping the information completely confidential. SSP said that the district police is working under a three-pronged strategy in district-level rehabilitation centers with the help of experts.
Its objective is to ensure prevention, implementation and rehabilitation of drug addiction. Along with this, he also discussed topics like road safety, cyber security, safe school vehicles, good touch-bad touch and student police cadet scheme. During this, psychologist Sandeep Kumari of the drug de-addiction and rehabilitation center also discussed with the school principals. He highlighted the psychological aspects related to drug addiction.
On this occasion, SP Manoj Thakur, Civil Surgeon Dr. Pawan Kumar, District Education Officer (Secondary) Lalita Arora, Deputy Medical Commissioner Dr. Harbans Kaur, Deputy District Education Officer (Secondary) Dheeraj Vashisht, Medical Officer Dr. Mehta, Vice Principal of James Cambridge School Jasjit Mundi, Vijay Bhatti and other dignitaries were also present.
